quote of the week.
frank lloyd wright. architectural savant with some wise words.
a creative is always plagued by the ideal of making art and what that art should be, should not be; loved, hated, what will the world think, what do i think.
but then there is andy…who says screw ‘em all and just keep moving.
just keep creating.
failure is sometimes the best lesson and the biggest motivation.
having been at an oh-so-luxurious luxury design house for a full six months now, one alarmingly disarming realization has come into play:
fashion is based on the not eating of ramen.
let me elaborate…
fashion pays peanuts. and by peanuts i mean the two-bit generic store kind that has faux salt.
and to work in fashion you must a) be skinny and b) look the part at all times.
the catch? employee discounts don’t really bring down the luxury prices to your peanut-salary-level, so in order to play the part, you need to spend.
which in turns means, you need ramen.
lots and lots of noodle ramen. (because it’s the only thing you can now afford after blowing your entire paycheck on a silk beaded dress you can only wear once.)
and what does ramen do? it makes you bloated…ALWAYS. and just in case you didn’t know, bloated = not fashionable.
so in order to look good, you have to eat things that make you look fat, which in turn makes you not look good.
fashion…it’s a cruel, cruel world.
there is going to be a ton of bad behavior this weekend.
obsession du jour.
home decor fodder.
je l’aime beaucoup.
here is to being unreasonable in a very reasonable world.
if only we could prescribe such things.
that world would have no alarm for addiction or dependency.
in fact we would embrace it.
just keep rolling.
to everywhere and nowhere.
rolling deep, rolling big, rolling on.
the urge to discover.
let this be the biggest discovery year yet.
